Valentine's, White, Black and what another Day???

Hi / 안녕~

~In my country, February is synonym of love, friendship, colors red and pink and boys saving money for buying a big teddy bear to their girls (yup, pretty old fashioned)
Well, en Korea is ALL the opposite T.T, Girls (including me) since the first days of the month are already buying all the ingredients, boxes, bows, etc for giving to their OPPAS (boyfriends, guys they like or have some affection). But the thing doesn't finish just like that, in the korean calendar there is more than one day to celebrate this kind of "cute" stuff.

En fin, empecemos / Anyways, let's start

Veamos
On Feb 14th or Valentine's Day girls give CHOCOLATES and/or some presents to boys. Lets see

This is what i made for my hubby. Chocolates of: Mocca, White & Strawberry filled with: Raisins, Almonds, Walnuts, Mango, Blueberries and Dried Cereals.
Also this cute bottle with the 31st reasons why i love him.. each one written in spanish and korean ♡

On March 14th or White day all the guys that received chocolates on February, as            being grateful they have to buy CANDIES to their girls.

Me and the box of candies that hubby gave me (with a rose on the top)
I think i will never finish it T.T

On April 14th or Black Day all the ones that didn't receive chocolates or candies go out together to eat jjajangmyeon (black noodles)

On  May 14th or Rose Day It's supposed that all the couple will give flowers each others.

Quien no quisiera recibir un bouquet asi? Cada billete equivale a casi $10 dolares americanos
Who wouldn't like to receive this kind of bouquet? Each bill is equal as $10 U.S dollars

On June 14th or Kiss Day, Couples have to kiss to confirm their love... Well, this is        silly.. What about the kisses on the resting 364 days of the year?

On July 14th. Couples exchange silver jewelry as rings, necklaces, etc.

On August 14th Couples are supposed to dress green clothes and walk in the woods (idk why) Meanwhile the single ones drink lots of soju (korean alcohol that his bottle is green color) Well.. weird since koreans drink almost everyday...

On September 14th o Photo/Music Day Couples exchange CDs (IDK if they keep doing that on the age of technology of smartphones, etc) They take pictures of themselves and go to Noraebangs (karaokes) Another weird day because most of koreans go to karaokes every week.

Picture of a karaoke in which you pay 1000won ($1 us dollar) for 4 songs

On September 14th or Wine Day I think i don't need to explain that, right?

On November 14th or Movie Day. Couples watch a movie together... Having another days... Nov 14 is the ideal one, huh??? haha

>>Bonus: On November 11st or Peppero Day The one i already explained before here

On December 14th Again, couples hug each other to show their love

On January 14th or Diary Day Couple exchange diaries to write about all what happens while they are together (i guess they write there when they break up too hahaha)

And my list finishes here of all the 14th of the year!!! How was it? So if you are planing to come to Korea save some money every month or you will stay alone eating jjajangmyeon LOL!

My first Kimjang ~ Making Kimchi Day

Hi~ 안녕

Spelled kimjang, gimjang is the traditional process of preparation and preservation of Kimchi. It started on the first days of November (korean winter) because, in summer kimchi will be fermented (or how they say fresh)
Groups of Korean people (and now foreingers too)  gather to cut the vegetables, wash them, and add salt to cure the food and begin the fermentation process. The nature of kimchi means that it is challenging to store for long periods; if it is too cold, it will freeze, and if it is too warm, it will over ferment, and may turn sour.
Kimjang was listed as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in December 2013.

For all those don't know what KIMCHI is:

Is a traditional fermented Korean side dish made of vegetables with a variety of seasonings. It is often described as "spicy" or "sour". As you can see in the picture, it has a big variety of nutrients. Of this, they make soups, mix it with eggs, with rice, etc. Even Ramen

Now, about my expierence making kimchi... I prepared it with my mother in law during two long days T.T

First, we waited 2 days for the home delivery (the sister of my MIL delivered 3 boxes of Cabbages)

Then, we had to wait for 1 more day that the Cabbages must get dry.

Meanwhile, we had to clean and cut the mustard leafs, green onions and radish (trust me, there was a lot)

He aqui la foto xD
After finishing that, my MIL (i didn't help in that) started seasoning and mix it with the vegetables that we mentioned before... I won't tell it because is a secret recipe MUAHAHA!. Naah, i don't remember all of it because it was too long.. but if you want to i can tell you in comments. Here's the picture xD

Once that we have the sauce, we had to fill SLICE BY SLICE each Cabbage. Imagine there were 3 BOXES!!! I think i took like 4-5h making it. My MIL just watching and saying: It can not be too white or it will be not tasty, and it can not be too red or you will finish all the sauce.

Este fue el producto terminado. 15 tapers!
This was the finished product. 15 plastic boxes!

My 1st Bday in Korea... Miyeok Guk ~ Seaweed soup

Hi!
~As all of my FB friends know, this 18th was my birthday.. Is my 1st BD in Korea, far away from the fam, the heat of people, peruvian food, celebration, etc.
Hubby bought me a cake and 2 little beers, later on was a regular day because in Korea they don't celebrate birthdays... Well.. just the FIRST YEAR and 70 years old (i will explain it later..)
Here is the video and pics of my little cute cake.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202755755319182&l=3484682086224566924

~What koreans DO for birthdays is the famous 미역국 (miyeok guk) or seaweed soup... They said is one of the "most nutritive foods in the world" because it has fiber, omega acids, calcium, vitamin B1 & B3, while low in calories... Originally, long time a go (and now a days too) they gave this soup to the women that gave birth BY A MONTH every day, because this soup is for metabolism regulation, blood purification, constipation relief, detoxification, anti-carcinogen, anti-aging etc.

~So as i am a good girl i will share with you the seaweed recipe for all the lovers of korean and/or healthy food ;)

INGREDIENTES

INGREDIENTS
  1. DRIED SEAWEED (a bag contains 200g but u don't use it all)
  2. COW MEAT (cut in small pieces, as more you put, as more delicious it is but 600g is ok)
  3. SESAME OIL (A BIG COOKING SPOON ~ ONE AND A HALF)
  4. SOY SAUCE (just a little / 2 table spoons)
  5. GARLIC (one table spoon of minced one)
  6. RICE WATER
  7. SALT (as you like)
PREPARATION
  1. Soak 2 full hands of seaweed in water for at least 30min ~ 1 hour (you can use more, is up to you)
  2. Rinse the seaweed thoroughly twice and drain. Cut them into whatever length you prefer (but in my experience, for the ones that eat this for the first time cut it very small because seaweed is sticky and is hard to eat haha)
  3. Apart, when you will make your rice wash it twice and the other times, the rice water put it in another bowl.
  4. Cut beef into bite sized pieces if it’s not pre-cut. In a large pot, sauté beef in 1 tbs of sesame oil while stirring on high heat for 3 min. Add the seaweed and sauté for another 5 min. Add a bit more sesame oil if it starts to stick to the bottom.
  5. Add you rice-water, 1 table spoon of minced garlic, ½ tsp of salt and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce for soup to the pot with beef and seaweed. Boil without lid on high heat for about 30 minutes. Skim off any foam or oil on top.
  6. Taste to season. If it’s not salty enough, add salt gradually so you don’t make it too salty. If it seems too salty, add a little bit of water and bring it to boil again.  The soap is ready to eat :)

Korean Girl in The Voice Peru!

Hi!
~This week i saw a few of my friend posting a Korean girl's video on their Facebook but didn't care, today appears like suggested videos in my YouTube account and when i clicked i was stocked to the program named The Voice that has like coaches 4 big singers of Latin America music as: Eva Ayllon, The Cougar Rodriguez, the handsome and platonic love Jerry Rivera & Kalimba. Watch it yourselves!

~Just Saying: When she sang in english, it was good; but me being here and watching the contest here, i think when she sang in korean she wouldn't be choose.

~This guy ex I am Kalimba was definitely which i liked the most and also to the 4 coach that ask for his voice.

~The last thing i will say about this post is: Jerry Rivera is sooooooo handsome! I envy the contestants :'( and i feel so good hearing so many peruvian talent.

Starbucks in Ulsan~Korea

~Just to start i want to say that i don't live in Seoul or know about another cities, i just give my opinion from what i see where i hang out.

~Well, with this post don't think that i hate america or something like that, it is just that, if i can rescue something about the korean nationalism is that they don't see the brand, they see the product. It's the same with Starbucks. For example, in my country, people gets craaaaazy for that Medusa or whatever it is the coffee shop logo and other restaurants that are not even good, just because it is a well-known name. Every time i pass across Starbucks (in my neighborhood) i just see a few people. It makes me laugh but at the same time makes me think: It's because there are so manyy coffee shops here, so many competition, that you go to the most delicious or at the end to the cheapest one. not like omG! i take a pic, i steal WiFi, and publish on my Facebook location that i'm here. As i said before, everywhere i go here, there's free WiFi! no password :)
That's why my little friends, we have to follow the koreans style and buy the product and not the brand!

Philippines and what?? 15 languages

Hi!
Me quede maravillada :)
~I never stop being amazed knowing for so many cultures in just 2 hours (at school).
Speaking with Philippines friends, the other day one of them told me that in their country they speak aprox. 15 languages and I, obviously couldn't believe it haha. Last Wednesday i talked to another philippine classmate and she told me that in their country they speak a lot of spanish words like pig, table, window, from 1 to 10 and other. I was amazed :)

Entonces empece a averiguar y encontre esto:
~So i started with my research and found this:

~Here we can see 18 languages and the number of native speakers. Tagalog is the mother tongue and in this counting English is missing. Spanish is known as Chavacano

22 lenguajes.
~In this language comparative chart you can see aprox 22 languages.

~And well, as I  always say: Even the best expert never stops learning ^^
Thanx for reading.
